The club
Fussball Club Vaduz were founded on 14 February 1932 in Vaduz and are the only professional football club in Liechtenstein. They play at the Rheinpark Stadion, the national stadium, which seats 5,873 and holds 7,584 with the standing areas behind the goals. The colours are red. The nicknames are Residenzler (Residents), Fürstenverein (the Prince's Club) and Stolz von Liechtenstein (the Pride of Liechtenstein).
Their position is unusual and worth stating plainly. Liechtenstein runs no domestic league, so Vaduz play in the Swiss league system as a guest club, paying an annual fee to the Swiss Football Association. They are not a member of that association, do not enter the Swiss Cup, and cannot represent Switzerland in Europe. If they finished high enough in the Swiss Super League to qualify for a UEFA competition the place would be redistributed among Swiss clubs, and if they won the league the trophy would go to the runners-up. Their route into Europe is the Liechtenstein Cup, which they almost always win.
Recent seasons
Vaduz were relegated from the Swiss Super League in 2020/21 and spent five seasons in the Challenge League: fourth in 2021/22 on 60 points, eighth in 2022/23 with 7 wins and 16 draws, third in 2023/24, sixth in 2024/25 with 13 wins, 12 draws and 11 defeats.
In 2025/26 they won the Challenge League, first of ten, and were promoted on 15 May 2026, returning to the top flight after five years away. They also won the Liechtenstein Cup for the 52nd time.
Honours and landmarks
Fifty-two Liechtenstein Cups, a world record for wins in a national cup competition, and two Liechtenstein Football Championships from 1932 and 1936, before the national league was discontinued. In the Swiss system they have won the Challenge League four times, in 2002/03, 2007/08, 2013/14 and 2025/26, and the third-tier 1. Liga twice.
Franz Burgmeier holds the appearance record with 371 and won sixteen trophies with the club. Daniele Polverino is the leading scorer with 91.

Biggest win: 0-22 away at FC Triesen II in the Liechtenstein Cup quarter-finals on 9 November 1999. Biggest home win: 11-0 against FC Schaan in the Liechtenstein Cup final on 4 May 2016. Biggest European win: 5-1 at home to La Fiorita of San Marino on 9 July 2015, and 0-5 away in the first leg on 2 July 2015. Biggest European defeat: 9-1 away at Hradec Králové in the Cup Winners' Cup on 24 August 1995. Biggest European home defeats, all 0-5: Chornomorets Odesa on 19 August 1992, Hradec Králové on 10 August 1995 and Eintracht Frankfurt on 8 August 2019.
The Rheinpark Stadion opened on 31 July 1998 with a match against the Bundesliga champions Kaiserslautern, who won 8-0.
European record
Vaduz first entered Europe in 1992 as Liechtenstein Cup holders and lost 12-1 on aggregate to Chornomorets Odesa in the Cup Winners' Cup qualifying round. Their first European victory came in 1996, on penalties against Universitate Riga of Latvia after 2-2 on aggregate; Paris Saint-Germain then beat them 7-0 over two legs.
In 2002 they came within seconds of the UEFA Cup first round proper. With the aggregate level and Livingston going through on away goals, Marius Zarn shot for goal from a late Vaduz corner and the referee blew for full time before the ball crossed the line.
Since then: a win over Dacia Chişinău in 2005/06 before elimination by Beşiktaş; a win over Falkirk in 2009/10 before a 3-0 aggregate defeat to Slovan Liberec; wins over La Fiorita and Nõmme Kalju in 2015/16 before going out to Thun on away goals; wins over Breiðablik and, in a genuine shock, MOL Fehérvár in 2019/20, before Eintracht Frankfurt beat them heavily home and away. That home leg drew 5,908 spectators to a town of 5,521 people.
On 25 August 2022, after winning away at Rapid Wien, Vaduz became the first club from Liechtenstein to reach the group stage of a UEFA competition, qualifying for the Europa Conference League. Drawn with AZ, Apollon Limassol and Dnipro-1, they drew 0-0 at home with Apollon and away at Dnipro-1 and finished bottom of the group with two points from six matches.

Marc Schneider is the head coach and Patrick Burgmeier the chairman. This is Vaduz's first season back in the Swiss Super League since 2020/21, and it has begun badly: two matches, two defeats, 1-2 away at Lugano and 2-3 at home to St. Gallen. That is three goals scored and five conceded, and it leaves them tenth of twelve with no points.
As Liechtenstein Cup holders Vaduz entered the Conference League at the second qualifying round and dispatched Atlètic Club d'Escaldes of Andorra 6-0 on aggregate. They won 4-0 at the Rheinpark on 23 July 2026 in front of 1,403, Mischa Eberhard scoring twice, with Juan Ignacio Cabrera and Dejan Sorgić adding late goals, and won the return 2-0 at the Estadi Nacional in Andorra la Vella on 30 July before a crowd of 100, Dejan Djokic and Denis Simani scoring.
They are now in the Conference League third qualifying round against Inter Turku and trail. Vaduz lost the first leg 2-1 in Turku on 6 August 2026 in front of 3,719. Julian Stark put through his own goal on 22 minutes, Dejan Sorgić equalised on 63, and Prosper Ahiabu won it for Inter Turku on 68. Both sides had goals ruled out for offside late on. The second leg is at the Rheinpark Stadion on 13 August 2026, refereed by Filip Glova of Slovakia. The winner meets the winner of Debrecen against Copenhagen in the play-off round on 20 and 27 August.
