The club
Valletta Football Club were founded in 1943 through the merger of three sides from Malta's capital, Valletta Prestons, Valletta St. Paul's and Valletta United. Valletta United itself dated back to 1903 and had already won league championships in 1914-15 and 1931-32 before folding into the new club. Valletta FC is a distinct club from Floriana FC, Ħamrun Spartans FC and Marsaxlokk FC, three other clubs that also appear in this corpus: Floriana were founded in 1894 and represent the neighbouring town of Floriana, Ħamrun Spartans were founded in 1907 and represent the town of Ħamrun, and Marsaxlokk FC were founded in 1949 and represent the fishing village of Marsaxlokk.
