SS Virtus

Also written as Virtus.

The club

SS Virtus is not La Fiorita. Both are San Marino clubs and both have played continental qualifying football in recent seasons, but they are separate institutions from separate towns: Virtus (full name Associazione Calcio Virtus, the football section of the multi-sports club Società Sportiva Virtus) is based in Acquaviva, plays in green and black, and was founded in 1964, while La Fiorita (Società Polisportiva La Fiorita) is based in Montegiardino, plays in blue, yellow and white, and was founded in 1967. The two clubs met directly in the final of the 2025–26 Conference League play-off tournament, with Virtus winning 2–1, which is as good a reason as any not to mix the two up.

The club plays its home matches at the Stadio di Acquaviva, which has a capacity of 2,000. The chairman is Pier Domenico Giulianelli and the manager, as recorded in the sources read here, is Luigi Bizzotto. Virtus spent most of its history as a modest member of the Campionato Sammarinese di Calcio before a sharp rise in the 2020s: two league titles, a Coppa Titano, three Super Coppa Sammarinese wins and, in 2025, the first appearance by any San Marino club in the play-off round of a UEFA club competition.

Recent seasons

Virtus won the Campionato Sammarinese title in 2023–24, finishing first with a record of 26 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses from 30 matches, 79 points and a goal difference of +41 (61 scored, 20 conceded). They retained the title in 2024–25, finishing 24-5-1 for 77 points with 66 goals scored and 18 conceded, a goal difference of +48; La Fiorita were runners-up that season on 73 points (22-7-1, 74 scored, 19 conceded) and went on to win the Conference League play-off tournament reserved for the clubs below the champions.

In 2025–26 the positions reversed at the top: Tre Fiori won the regular season with 73 points, Virtus finished second with 72 points from a 22-6-2 record (76 goals scored, 20 conceded, +56 goal difference), and Tre Penne were third on 70 points. Virtus's placing carried an "(O)" designation in the table, marking them as the play-off tournament winners: as second-placed finishers they entered the Conference League play-off bracket contested by the teams placed second through eleventh, and won it, beating La Fiorita 2–1 in the final on 16 May 2026 to take San Marino's Conference League qualifying berth for 2026–27.

Honours and landmarks

Virtus have won the Campionato Sammarinese di Calcio twice, in 2023–24 and 2024–25, and were runners-up in 1987–88 and again in 2025–26. They have won the Coppa Titano twice, in 2022–23 and 2024–25, the Super Coppa Sammarinese three times (2023, 2024 and 2025), and the San Marino Federal Trophy once, in 1988. The 2025 run to the Conference League play-off round, reached by beating Moldova's Milsami Orhei in the third qualifying round, was the first time any San Marino club had gone that far in a UEFA club competition.

Notable scorelines

Virtus's run to the 2022–23 Coppa Titano went through a 2–1 aggregate win over Cosmos in the first round, a 3–2 aggregate win over defending champions Tre Fiori in the quarter-finals (won 1–0 at home, lost 1–3 away, advancing on aggregate), and a 3–1 aggregate semi-final win over Folgore (3–0 at home, 0–1 away). The final, played at the Stadio di Acquaviva on 27 May 2023, was won 3–1 against Tre Penne. In Europe, the club's heaviest defeat on record here came in the 2024–25 Champions League first qualifying round, losing 1–11 on aggregate to FCSB of Romania (1–7 at home, 0–4 away). Their best European result was the 2025–26 Conference League third qualifying round, where a 3–0 home win over Milsami Orhei of Moldova was enough to go through 5–3 on aggregate despite a 2–3 away defeat, before Virtus lost the play-off round 2–5 on aggregate to Iceland's Breiðablik (1–3 at home, 1–2 away).

European record

Virtus's run of continuous European qualification began in 2024–25 as reigning Sammarinese champions, entering the Champions League first qualifying round and losing 1–11 on aggregate to FCSB (1–7 home, 0–4 away). As Coppa Titano holders they also had a route into the Conference League that season, reaching the second qualifying round before losing to Estonia's Flora 2–5 on aggregate (0–0 home, 2–5 away).

In 2025–26, again champions, Virtus entered the Champions League first qualifying round and lost 1–4 on aggregate to Zrinjski Mostar of Bosnia and Herzegovina (0–2 away, 1–2 home). Via the Coppa Titano route they entered the Conference League, beating Milsami Orhei of Moldova 5–3 on aggregate in the third qualifying round (3–0 home, 2–3 away) to reach the play-off round for the first time by any San Marino club, before losing 2–5 on aggregate to Iceland's Breiðablik (1–3 away, 1–2 home).

In 2026–27, entering as Conference League play-off tournament winners rather than as league champions, Virtus met Dila Gori of Georgia in the first qualifying round and lost 2–3 on aggregate, winning the home leg 1–0 before losing the away leg 1–3.

Head-to-head notes

The clearest and most direct meeting between the two clubs that must not be confused with one another came in the 2025–26 Conference League play-off final, played on 16 May 2026, which Virtus won 2–1 against La Fiorita to take the season's Conference League qualifying place. The two clubs also finished first and second in the regular season table on separate occasions in the mid-2020s: La Fiorita were runners-up to Virtus in 2024–25, and Virtus were the play-off winners behind Tre Fiori and ahead of La Fiorita's own position in the wider 2025–26 table. Beyond that direct final, no further head-to-head fixture detail (dates, scores, competition) between Virtus and La Fiorita was established from the sources read here.

Right now (2026/27)

Virtus enter 2026–27 off the back of a season in which they finished second in the Campionato Sammarinese regular table behind champions Tre Fiori, but won the Conference League play-off tournament by beating La Fiorita 2–1 in the final on 16 May 2026, securing the club's UEFA Conference League qualifying place for the new season. That campaign began in the first qualifying round against Dila Gori of Georgia, where Virtus won the home leg 1–0 but lost away 1–3, going out 2–3 on aggregate. Domestic details of Virtus's 2026–27 Campionato Sammarinese campaign, including a specific source page and any results so far, were not established from the sources read here.
