Wycombe Wanderers
Also written as Wycombe.
The club
Wycombe Wanderers were founded in 1887 and play at Adams Park in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, capacity 9,558. They are the Chairboys, a reference to the town's furniture trade, and also the Blues, and play in blue and white. The Wycombe Wanderers Trust took formal ownership of the club on 30 June 2012, ending a transfer embargo; ownership passed in 2024 to Blue Ocean Partners II Ltd, controlled by Mikheil Lomtadze.
Recent seasons
Wycombe finished third in the curtailed 2019/20 League One season, 59 points from 34 games, and won the play-off final 2-1 against Oxford United to reach the Championship for the first time in the club's history. They lasted one season, finishing 22nd in 2020/21 with 43 points and going down by a single point. In 2021/22 they finished sixth in League One with 83 points and reached the play-off final, losing 2-0 to Sunderland at Wembley on 21 May 2022 in front of 72,332, Elliot Embleton and Ross Stewart scoring. They were ninth in 2022/23 with 69 points and tenth in 2023/24 with 65. In 2024/25 they finished fifth with 84 points, a season that included a 19-match unbeaten league run, and lost in the play-off semi-finals to Charlton Athletic.
In 2025/26 Wycombe finished 11th with 63 points from 17 wins, 12 draws and 17 defeats, 69 goals scored and 58 conceded. Mike Dodds was relieved of his duties on 18 September 2025 after 31 matches in charge and a win rate of 29 per cent; Michael Duff replaced him the same day. Fred Onyedinma was the leading league scorer with 10. Cauley Woodrow topped the all-competitions list with 12. They reached the second round of the FA Cup, the fourth round of the EFL Cup and the group stage of the EFL Trophy. Highest home attendance was 7,872 against Fulham on 28 October 2025; the league average was 5,550.
Honours and landmarks
Wycombe won the FA Amateur Cup in 1930/31, the FA Trophy in 1990/91 and 1992/93, and the Football Conference in 1992/93, which took them into the Football League. They have won the Isthmian League eight times, in 1956, 1957, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1983 and 1987, and the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup 29 times, most recently in 2025/26. Their best FA Cup run is the semi-final of 2000/01, when they lost 2-1 to Liverpool to goals from Emile Heskey and Robbie Fowler. Their best League Cup run is the semi-final of 2006/07. They were EFL Trophy runners-up in 2023/24, losing 2-1 to Peterborough United in their first final in the competition.
Gareth Ainsworth managed the club from 2012 to February 2023, a decade that included the promotion to the Championship, before leaving for Queens Park Rangers. Matt Bloomfield succeeded him and left for Luton Town in January 2025.
Wycombe's record win, record defeat, record attendance, record appearances and record goalscorer could not be established: the club's own site does not expose them to automated fetches and the Wikipedia records section lists only best performances by competition. What is published is the attendance series since 1980/81, in which the highest average home league gate is 6,621 in 2001/02 and the lowest 535 in 1983/84.
Notable scorelines
The 2000/01 FA Cup run, which reached the semi-final from the third tier, is the club's best-known sequence, and the 2020 play-off final win over Oxford United is the most consequential single match. In 2025/26 Wycombe won 4-0 against Doncaster Rovers on 7 February and 4-0 against Port Vale on 28 March, and lost 4-0 to both Exeter City and Luton Town.
Head-to-head notes
No all-time head-to-head records could be established for any 2026/27 League One opponent. Wycombe do not publish opponent-by-opponent records and the usual third-party source blocks automated access. What is documented is the pattern of rivalries: Slough Town were the fiercest rivals in the non-League years; Colchester United became rivals through the promotion race of the early 1990s, revived when Matt Bloomfield moved from Colchester to Wycombe mid-season; and since joining the Football League the club has developed rivalries with Oxford United, styled the M40 derby, with Reading, with Milton Keynes Dons as a Buckinghamshire derby, and with Luton Town. A smaller feud with Plymouth Argyle dates from the 2015 League Two play-offs and a January 2016 match in which 46-year-old goalkeeper Barry Richardson came on as a substitute and kept a clean sheet. Milton Keynes Dons, Oxford United, Reading, Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle are all in League One in 2026/27.
Right now (2026/27)
Michael Duff is head coach, appointed on 18 September 2025, with Jack Grimmer as club captain. Two goalkeepers arrived on 1 July 2026: Conor Hazard on a free from Plymouth Argyle and Matt Macey from Colchester United. Centre-back Steve Cook joined from Queens Park Rangers on 3 July. Cauley Woodrow signed from Luton Town for an undisclosed fee on 10 July and winger Silko Thomas arrived on a free from Leicester City on 15 July. Emre Tezgel joined on loan from Stoke City for the season on 23 July and Sam Parker on loan from Swansea City on 28 July. The one departure of note is winger James Tilley to AFC Wimbledon for an undisclosed fee on 14 July.
Wycombe won three of six pre-season friendlies, including 4-0 against Ebbsfleet United and 3-1 at home to Portsmouth. They host Stevenage in the EFL Cup first round at Adams Park on 7 August 2026, and open the league season away at Blackpool on 15 August 2026 with a 12:30 BST kick-off.
