The club
FK Zalgiris were founded on 16 May 1947 in Vilnius, originally as Dinamo Vilnius. They play at the LFF Stadium, capacity 5,067, having previously used the Zalgiris Stadium. They are the zaliai baltieji, the Green-Whites, and play in green and white stripes. A note on the name: there is a second Lithuanian club called Zalgiris, Kauno Zalgiris of Kaunas, and the two are frequently confused in feeds. This dossier is the Vilnius club.
Recent seasons
Zalgiris won the A Lyga in 2020, 2021 and 2022, were second in 2023, won it again in 2024 and finished third in 2025. Points totals for those seasons were not established from the sources read here and are not stated. The club fell away badly in the 2000s and has been the dominant Lithuanian side since about 2013.
Honours and landmarks
Ten Lithuanian championships, fourteen Lithuanian Cups and seven Lithuanian Supercups. Zalgiris have played 125 matches in UEFA competition, winning 38, drawing 27 and losing 60, scoring 133 and conceding 183. The landmark is the 2022/23 Conference League group stage, the first ever reached by a Lithuanian club.
The 2026/27 Conference League campaign began in the first qualifying round against OFK Petrovac of Montenegro. Zalgiris won 3-1 in Petrovac on 9 July 2026 and 2-1 at home on 16 July 2026, through 5-2 on aggregate. The second qualifying round produced the comeback of the round. Zalgiris lost 3-0 in Tbilisi to Dinamo Tbilisi on 23 July 2026 and then won the return in Vilnius 7-2 on 30 July 2026 to go through 7-5, inside ninety minutes.
The third qualifying round has been much harder. Hajduk Split, who had dropped down from the Europa League after failing to protect a lead, won 5-2 in Vilnius on 6 August 2026. Michele Sego scored a penalty on 5 minutes; Zalgiris goalkeeper Vincentas Sarkauskas saved a second Hajduk penalty on 13; Nikola Petkovic equalised on 35 after a Hajduk goalkeeping error, with Stanislav Bilenkyi providing the pass; Sego restored the lead on 45; and Adrion Pajaziti on 55, Dalisson de Almeida on 73 and Rokas Pukstas on 75 put the tie beyond reach before Marko Capan pulled one back on 86. Andrius Skerla named the same eleven that had beaten Dinamo Tbilisi.

For a club used to winning the league, fifth is a bad place to be in August.
