Halifax Town
The club
FC Halifax Town are a club from Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, nicknamed the Shaymen, who play at The Shay. They are not the old Halifax Town A.F.C., which Wikipedia says was buried by debts to HMRC after almost 100 years; FC Halifax Town is a separate, newly formed club, founded in 2008 in the eighth tier (Northern Premier League Division One North). They are also not any other Halifax club.
Wikipedia's infobox gives The Shay a capacity of 10,401 (5,108 seated) while its ground section says 14,081; the figures were not reconciled in the sources read here. Colours are traditionally blue and white, with the style changing often and recent home kits blue with white trim. John McGrath was announced as manager in May 2026 to replace Adam Lakeland, who left for Morecambe; a fan-site headline of 20 May 2026 has him leaving Buxton for Halifax.
Recent seasons
Halifax were third in the National League in 2016-17 and promoted via the play-offs, 16th in 2017-18 and 2018-19, and in 2019-20 were placed in the play-off positions on points per game before losing to Boreham Wood. They were 10th in 2020-21, fourth in 2021-22 (the club's highest league finish), 11th in 2022-23 and seventh in 2023-24. In 2024-25 they lost the play-off eliminator to Oldham, final position not stated, and in 2025-26 they finished eighth of 24.
