TSG Hoffenheim

Also written as Hoffenheim.

The club

Turn- und Sportgemeinschaft 1899 Hoffenheim e.V. were founded on 1 July 1899 as the gymnastics club Turnverein Hoffenheim, and the modern club was formed in 1945 when it merged with the football club Fußballverein Hoffenheim, founded in 1921. They are nicknamed Die Kraichgauer. This is TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, NOT 1. FC Heidenheim, and not Hoffenheim's own reserve or youth sides, which have won titles of their own.

The first team plays in the stadium listed by Wikipedia as the SNP Arena, also called the PreZero Arena and the Rhein-Neckar-Arena, where the Europa League home matches are listed as played in Sinsheim. Capacity is 30,150 and it has been in use since 2009; before that the club played at the Dietmar-Hopp-Stadion, from 1999. The club's colours are blue and white, according to the German Wikipedia.

The SAP co-founder Dietmar Hopp, who played for the club as a youth, funded it from 1990 to 2008, taking it from the Kreisliga A to the Bundesliga. He holds 96 per cent of the football company's shares; in 2015 he took the majority of voting rights despite the 50+1 rule and returned that majority to the club in 2023.

The head coach is Christian Ilzer, appointed in November 2024. His predecessors, most recent first, were Pellegrino Matarazzo (February 2023 to November 2024), André Breitenreiter (May 2022 to February 2023), Sebastian Hoeneß (2020 to 2022), Alfred Schreuder (2019 to 2020) and Julian Nagelsmann (2016 to 2019).

Lower down they were Oberliga Baden-Württemberg champions in 2000/01 and Verbandsliga Nordbaden champions in 1999/2000, and North Baden Cup winners four years running from 2001/02 to 2004/05.
