Two from five for the model, and the pair it called right were the two it felt most and least sure about. It made Hamilton Academical clear favourites at home to Queen of the South, and they won. It leaned, narrowly, to Ross County at Cove Rangers, the closest call on the card, and County took it. The three it backed at home all lost at home, which is how four of the five fixtures ended with the away side winning.
Cove Rangers 0, Ross County 2 was the first league meeting the two clubs have ever had, two sides that climbed out of the Highland League within a few years of each other. Connor Randall set the shape of it in the 15th minute from a Ross Docherty pass, and it stayed a one-goal game until the 88th, when Ricco Diack, signed by County at the end of August, scored from the penalty spot.
Hamilton Academical 4, Queen of the South 1 is the scoreline the model expected, though not the way it began. Liam Smith put Queens ahead in the 12th minute, with Ben Johnstone the provider. Andy Ryan then scored three times before half time, in the 23rd, 34th and 41st minutes, set up in turn by Cameron Blues, Stuart McKinstry and Dominic Thomas, and Thomas made the fourth for Tony Gallacher in the 69th. Hamilton's was the only home win of the afternoon.
Alloa Athletic 1, East Kilbride 2 is the one our own records file as an upset. Alloa were comfortable favourites at Recreation Park and went behind to Craig McGuffie in the 34th minute. Kyle Glasgow, who arrived from Rangers in the summer, levelled in the 58th from Stefan Scougall's pass. Callum McKenzie, a substitute, won it for East Kilbride in the 84th.
The other two home picks went the same way. East Fife 1, Montrose 2: Aidan Quinn scored for Montrose in the 30th minute, Graham Webster, on at half time, added the second a minute after the restart, and Cameron Ross pulled one back for East Fife in the 86th. Peterhead 1, Airdrieonians 2 turned on Callum Burnside, who converted a penalty in the 39th minute and, after Danny Strachan had levelled for Peterhead in the 77th, won it in the 88th.
